Letter from Our Superintendent

Dear Friends,

Our founder and former Senior Pastor, Ray Bentley had an incredible and lofty vision: to one day see a thriving Christian School that would be a blessing to those near and far. His heart was to equip young men and women for the work that God would one day call them into as adults; whether that was in the area of missions, medical, legal, government, athletics, arts, etc. He called these future learners ”roaring lambs”: young, bold, joyful, thriving, Spirit-filled disciples of Christ, thirsting for training and truth to carry out their mission to transform the world in every possible place and part; even unto the four corners.

Ever since our small and humble first class of six kindergartners and first graders in 1991, Maranatha Christian Schools (MCS) has been growing our roots deeper, wider, and stronger for the past three decades. With God’s continued love, tending support, and watering through His Spirit, MCS will without doubt continue to grow up into its fullest potential and design until Christ’s return-Maranatha!

This is what Ray Bentley always had in mind, when God planted this seed in his rich and ready heart that would give rise to the beautiful and powerful vision of “Transformed Lives, Transforming the World.” Now, after three decades on mission and vision, our commitment to this end has never been stronger. Daniel Bentley, who now leads and serves
as the Sr. Pastor of Maranatha Chapel, has taken hold of the vision- “Transformed Lives, Transforming the World,” just as passionately as his father did. He continues to water the roots of his earthly and heavenly fathers’ ministries.

Please join us on this incredible journey and vision for our student body, and prayerfully consider how you can partner in our amazing educational community. Every contribution will be used to further our programs in the areas of academics, arts and athletics, all being rooted and established in the foundation of a Biblical worldview. We thank you in advance for your support!

As stewards of God’s work and ever-expanding kingdom, our desire is to carry on as faithful “arborists” to assist in the school’s growth and beauty as God would have it, to maximize its purposes and blessings for our precious community of learners. Our hope is to continue to witness
the expansion of our three main program branches (academics, arts and athletics). Growing wider in these three areas will multiply opportunities and experiences that will nourish and further equip our student body to discover their true identity and calling in God. So as we continue to grow deeper and wider in our programs, our students will experience the joy of growing stronger in their calling and educational goals!

Gratefully,

Jess Hetherington
Superintendent

A Commitment to Cultivate Hearts and Minds

We are committed to helping students see the Gospel message in every aspect of their lives through a proven model of education that is rigorous, thought-provoking, mind-stimulating, and faith-saturated. MCS works alongside parents to develop a student’s heart, spirit, and intellect. We provide a learning environment where students have the opportunity to excel academically and personally. We’ve experienced unprecedented growth in the last few years, largely related to the pandemic. While our school family has grown considerably, the demographics of our student body are also evolving. This has prompted a review of our offerings. Our desire is to grow in three core areas. We believe investment in these areas will deepen the roots of our legacy, enhance our influence of students and families in the San Diego area, and elevate the excellence of our program offerings.

We Intend to Grow by Investing in the Following Areas:

Academic Roots

Academic Growth: We are dedicated to robust academic programs and opportunities that inspire and challenge our students. We are committed to providing an educational environment where students can excel in their studies, pursue their passions, and prepare for their future endeavors. Our focus on academic excellence ensures that every student has access to a comprehensive and enriching curriculum, state-of-the-art resources, and a variety of extracurricular activities that enhance their learning experience.

Academic Leadership: We are committed to our exceptional teaching faculty and staff who are the cornerstone of our academic success. By offering competitive compensation and professional development opportunities, we aim to retain and attract the highest quality educators. We recognize and value their dedication, experience, and expertise, and we are committed to ensuring that their contributions are genuinely reflected in their compensation. This investment in our faculty underscores our commitment to delivering the highest standard of education for our students.

Athletics Roots

We will enhance our athletics program, ensuring our students have access to resources for success. Recognizing the importance of a well-rounded education, one that encompasses physical fitness and teamwork, we are committed to outfitting our athletics program over time with cutting-edge facilities, appropriate gear, and expert coaching. Our dedication
to athletics underscores our goal to foster the growth, character, and achievement of our students in all facets of their education.

Arts Roots - Performing Arts

We are excited about nurturing the artistic talents within our student body. We want to strengthen our arts programs with necessary resources. Our goal is to supply state-of-the- art equipment, dedicated studios, and quality materials that enable our students to develop creativity and hone artistic skills. By cultivating an environment ripe for artistic expression, we believe we’re contributing to the comprehensive development of our students.

As we look towards the future, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Your support will ensure that our roots continue to deepen, our branches grow wider, and our community gets stronger. We invite you to join us in this journey of growth and transformation, to impact current and future students as well as the broader MCS community. With your help, we are excited to cultivate an environment where every Eagle can soar.
